Paul and I celebrated our 1st wedding anniversary this Sunday, and we took a trip up the North Coast to The Hatchery in Amatikulu. The whole weekend was a surprise that Paul had kept so well from me, and to be honest I had to no idea that there were such awesome getaways up the North Coast. My eyes have been opened to a whole new landscape of exploration!
Amatikulu is only an hour away from Umhlanga so we quickly proceeded along the N2, took the Eshowe off-ramp and right towards the glorious ocean. This is what we arrived to…
The Hatchery is rustic, comfortable and set in the heart of rural KZN. Once a fully operational prawn farm, now converted self catering accommodation. The decor at The Hatchery is every photographers dream.
Every room is decorated with a unique rustic feel. Rooms range in size from 2 sleepers, 4 sleepers, to an 8 sleeper bunk room. Perfect for a family getaway!
The Hatchery is close to the Prawn Shack, a true beach shack experience serving up a delicious lazy lunch from 12pm - 6pm Saturdays & Sundays.
We only spent a night away but we came home feeling so rejuvenated! Walks on the beach, paddling up the lagoon, eating prawns for lunch, and sipping on coffee as the sun sets… the perfect recipe for ones soul.
