Hot Coffee On A Cold Day

8th October 2012

Today it is miserable weather in Durban and for some reason our office air-con has been on all day. Needless to say I have drunk a lot of tea and hot coffee today. Probably as much as this giant cup I poached from Pick and Pay’s Facebook page- brilliant!

It is on cold days like this, when I rely on hot coffee that I think fondly on my husbands wonderful traits.
My husband is a man of good taste (hee hee a bit cheeky hey). He is very picky when it comes to whiskey and coffee. Whiskey, who knows why (I don’t share his taste… although I did sit through a whiskey tour while in Scotland) but as for coffee, I understand that. There is nothing worse than burnt coffee. Even when making instant coffee we will put the milk in first to avoid burning the coffee granules.

Paul and I have our few coffee shops that we frequent regularly, namely Love Coffee, Freedom Cafe and Colombo and the main reason is because we get good coffee here and I save myself the embarrassment of Paul sending his coffee back (nah, just kidding, well sort of).

Aeropress Coffee Maker

It was actually on a trip to Colombo that Paul heard about this new contraption called an Aeropress. Well he was sold and needless to say when deciding on what we would spend some wedding gift money on that was high on the list. Don’t kid yourself, this contraption is nothing fancy. It is literally 2 plastic tubes and a filter. BUT it makes delicious coffee. I am not joking, it tastes like machine coffee. I am not a fan of filter coffee and so I assumed on arrival of this gadget that it would taste the same as what a Bodum press could produce, but I was wrong and pleasantly surprised at that.

Now every morning in our Mr and MRS mugs we drink great coffee which takes 2 minutes to make.
And it gets better! Today Paul bought us a milk frother so we can really get fancy and have cappuccinos. WIN!

So on this cold and rainy day in Durban I can thank the growing coffee culture and my husbands passion for good coffee, because on arrival home just now I will have some yummy, hot coffee waiting for me.
