Love thy Neighbour

19th September 2011

An interjection has to made between these Durban posts, as I have to share the exciting news that what was once only a Cape Town attraction has hit the streets of Johannesburg. Juta street to be precise. The Neighbourgoods Market launched two weeks ago at 73 Juta Street in Braamfontein.

What a success! The streets were lined with cars from 9am until 3pm and the vendors were swamped with hungry hippies. I do love going to visit markets because there is always such a great mix of people. You get your families out on their weekly outing while mom tries to stop little Jimmy from stealing a chocolate brownie, and then you get your young hipsters dressed to stand out and just loving the mellow vibe and the subtle buzz of frying eggs and brewing coffee.

If I could go to this market every Saturday I would! It is so easy to find and for those of you who, like me, don’t trust your GPS here is a map to exactly where you need to go.

Take your cash and leave your troubles because as you step foot into this market you will only be swept away by the sheer magnificence that it has to offer. Flowers, jams, cheese, bread, chocolate, coffee, pancakes, smoothies, tarts, pizzas and even beer and cocktails, there is something for everyone at the Neighbourgoods Market.

Durban mania

5th September 2011

The last two weeks I have been living it up on the wonderful East Coast of SA, in Durban. There are a few reasons I love Durban… 1. The beach makes me happy. 2. My family are just an hour down the coast in Port Shepstone. 3. My incredible boyfriend lives and works in Durban.

So yes I have reason to love it. This time however I added 2 more reasons to love Durban… Colombo Coffee Roastery and Bean Green Cafe!!!!! WOW! I am so excited to tell you all about these two amazing finds, so keep checking out this blog for information on where to go and what to try!!!

Vintage Grace and Neighbourgoods

11th July 2011

Another hot spot for Capetonians is midtown Woodstock. The Biscuit Mill is one of the busiest locations on a Saturday morning. Not your common cafe or restaurant, the Biscuit Mill is actually a block of many different design and arts stores. However on a Saturday morning a marque is assembled and many of the local chefs and barrister’s come together to show off their fabulous tastes at the Neighbourgoods Market.

The most beautiful time to visit is obviously when it is not raining or windy, but the Biscuit Mill accommodates for this, as all stalls and the seating area are all under cover.
From cheeses to chocolates, olives to smoothies, whatever tickles your fancy you will be sure to find it here. Best to arrive around 9am as parking can be quite tricky, however if you are not averse to walking then meander across at anytime before 1pm.
What i love most about the Biscuit Mill is its vintage, quirky design, and this too leaks into the style of dress people wear on their Saturday morning visits. Floral skirts and brown ankle boots, waste coats and tommy takkies… what a splendid way to spend a weekend!
So draw your cash and wear your flats, and you will most certainly be quite enthralled by the show that is the Biscuit Mill market.
