I love the Easter weekend and all the celebrations that come with it. This Easter weekend was especially wonderful as it was the Rowney’s first Easter at our home. It was such a privilege to have my family huddled around our rather small dining room table, eating delicious roast chicken and salads. It was a hot weekend so we thought best to flip through Sarah Graham’s recipe book “Bitten” and find some fresh salads to fit the occassion.
Easter is a time to be thankful, it is a time to reflect on the gift that Jesus gave us, the sacrifice he made so that we can live fully, and the Grace that he has for us daily. We reflect on the cross, his death on that cross, and the life and restoration that comes from such an act of love. I think as I reflected on this truth and what has happened over this year, I became more aware of just how precious my family and loved ones are to me. How lucky I am to have such a loving family, a devoted husband, and a Saviour who cherishes me above all else.
If you read my blog post “A Story of Faith” you will know that just 2 months ago my dad had a bilateral stroke and has since been through some very intense therapy. He is home now and doing so well! He has a carer who is just brilliant with him, and makes sure he does all his exercises and activities before anyone comes to visit. Our family is so grateful to this lovely lady, Beaula, and all the hard work she puts in with my dad.
So this long weekend was his first trip back to Durban since he had been in hospital here, and it was so special having all the family together at the Easter church service on Sunday morning. Although his sight has been effected, he enjoyed every minute of the worship and the preach. What a moment to stop and thank God for the incredible healing he has done in my dad so far. We have so much to celebrate!
Our first Easter was a success, and the day was spent laughing and joking as a family. We celebrated being together, we celebrated our awesome God who made us, sent his son to save us, and constantly looks over us and protects us. Easter was a beautiful day of celebration!
